AACR Daniel D. Von Hoff Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education and Training in Cancer Research awarded to Polly A. Newcomb, PhD, MPH
For tireless support of cancer education and training, highlighted by her many years of mentorship and encouragement of countless graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-stage investigators, including underrepresented minority researcher populations in the cancer research field.
Dr. Newcomb is professor emeritus, Cancer Prevention Program, Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and professor emeritus, Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health, University of Washington. She served as the Principal Investigator for the Seattle Colon CFR (SCCFR) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center where she oversaw the recruitment and follow-up of the SCCFR’s 10,502 study participants until retiring in 2022.

The AACR Daniel D. Von Hoff Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education and Training in Cancer Research is intended to honor an individual in any subfield or sector of cancer research and cancer-related sciences who has contributed significantly to the education and training of cancer researchers and other professionals at all career levels, especially of early-career and early-stage investigators.
