Background |
The Colon Cancer Family Registry has served as an international resource for studies of the genetics and epidemiology of colorectal cancer (CRC) since 1997. It is the largest single family-based resource in the world for the study of CRC (and other cancers, such as endometrial cancer, that occur in these families). The CCFR has supported and facilitated over 200 scientific projects, many including collaborations with other top CRC groups in the world, and has generated over 400 publications to date. This annual in-person meeting enhances the monthly one-hour Steering Committee and other working group conference calls. These in-person meetings provide the opportunity for more in-depth discussions, break-out sessions, and concentrated impromptu meetings, all of which benefit the research agenda, scope of work, and the collaborative focus of the Colon Cancer Family Registry Cohort. Discussions focus on reviewing ongoing projects, updates on progress on the scope of work, brainstorming on novel scientific ideas and evaluation of opportunities for collaborating with other consortia as a group. These meetings are also focused on the genesis and development of new grant proposals which complement and further the aims of the cohort. |
